Welcome To R Math Farms!
Welcome to R Math Farms! We are located 50 miles north of Highway 2 along the Canadian border. Where Montana winters can be brutal and where we raise our cattle to handle it. Our farm was founded in 1915 when the family came from Germany, through Alberta, and settled in northern Phillips County north of Whitewater. Six generations of Maths have and are still living here.
We have been farming and raising cattle since the beginning. Starting mostly Hereford, we began transitioning to Angus in the 70’s. We had a nice commercial herd of Angus, but in 1988 Ben Math began purchasing a few registered females, with Bob and Kevin following suit. Kevin, at age 10, used saved 4-H pig money to buy a registered heifer. Cows were purchased from Gartner-Denowh, Jolly Roger, Apex, Arntzen and Sandy Bar Angus ranches. Those 20 cows have become the foundation for the 500 registered cows and 200 yearling heifers keeping us busy every year, in addition to 200 commercial cows.
We strive for an attractive mother cow with excellent disposition, strong foot, and great mothering ability. We want calves to come easy, vigorous, and hit the ground growing. With these bitter cold and windy springs in NE Montana, it’s a must. We hope those traits carry down the road, through our bulls, to our customers’ future females.
The Math bull battery consists of bulls from Schaff Angus Valley, Sitz, Apex, Spickler, Shipwheel, and Peak Dot Angus ranches. We breed for maternal traits, marbling, ribeye, muscle, length, eye appeal, and good disposition. Our annual bull sale is the Monday before Thanksgiving in November.
